JEAN PAUL GAULTIER, who recently left Hermes and received rave reviews for his latest couture show, is a favourite of the coming generation as much as he is with older audiences – model Daisy Lowe yesterday called him her number one.

Last night I asked our Twitter followers what bag or designer they would like to see us feature. Twitter user Fashion_Hawk suggested this Miu Miu Clutch. This was easy to say yes to, because I already eyed this clutch and already planned on writing about it.

The Miu Miu Bird Suede and Python Clutch is a welcomed surprise from Miu Miu and designer purses in general. We continue to see the same designs over and over. And for a site that reviews bags all day long, it takes additional measures to grab our attention, be it good or bad. In the case of this Miu Miu bag, I say it is good.

The clutch alternates strips of black python and pink suede with a python pink and black bird embellishment on the front. The bird accent breaks up the stripes and gives a whimsical touch. It is the shape of the bird that they use that I adore, long, lean and fashionable. The fold over top has scalloped trim which adds another touch that is greatly appreciated.

What I love is that Miu Miu thought out each aspect of this bag. And with the thought process the bag ends up standing apart from the rest. In a saturated handbag market you either have to have a classic bag that appeals to everyone or find another way to grab a buyers attention. This clutch was able to grab my attention, make me do a double take, and got me clicking to look at detailed shots. That is precisely how you engage someone, so props to Miu Miu for this clutch.

The clutch is large, considerably oversized, and offers interior compartments and an optional braided rope shoulder strap. Having an optional shoulder strap is always helpful, especially with the long shoulder drop which makes this a great evening bag but still leaves options for it as a day bag. Bravo Miu Miu!

You know what I really appreciate? The return of the oversized clutch. I’ve got lots of keys, a keyless-entry fob for my car and a Blackberry with a case on it, all of which have to leave the house with me no matter what. I’ve encountered a fair number of miniscule handbags that wouldn’t have fit one of those items by itself, let alone all of them together – don’t even think about adding in a lipgloss or card case.

The designers at Miu Miu know my struggle, obviously, which is why they’ve been so kind as to create the Miu Miu Oversized Sequin Clutch. Finally, I can carry a sparkly little bag that’s not actually too little to be useful.

Miu Miu did a good job of keeping the colors of this clutch neutral so that it won’t overwhelm an outfit – when a replica bag is this big and this shiny, also choosing a statement color would perhaps be too much for a lot of potential customers. The subtle gold, silver and green variation could go nicely with a lot of different outfits without upstaging the other elements of an ensemble. I have a hard time pinning down the Miu Miu handbag aesthetic. Their bags seem to roam freely between minimalist and intricate, taking a pit stop at every level in between. Since “brand cohesion” is probably only something that obtuse fashion people (like moi) ever think/care about, it doesn’t necessarily seem to be a bad thing – it certainly brings them attention from a wide swath of stylish girls and women.

The Miu Miu Lurex Jeweled Shoulder Bag is the brand at its most intricate extreme. Based on how successful the bag is, maybe they should spend more time at that end of the spectrum.

If you are carrying around the crown jewels, you may find yourself a little paranoid about safety.

New Miu Miu Stage Bags for Resort 2010 Collection Includes Jewels and Quilting

Soft and squishy Nappa leather and unique patterns are nothing new to luxury label Miu Miu, but I’m not used to seeing much shine on their handbag designs. That, however, is not the case for the brand’s recently unveiled Resort 2010 collection of purses.

Forget patchwork and matelasse elements. This time it’s about quilting and shiny jewels. The new collection is full of the label’s signature Nappa leather combined with shimmering jeweled straps and quilted effects.

For the most part, I’d classify these resort designs as evening bags; not only because of their fancy details but also due to their size. There’s not one in the bunch that’s too large to carry clutched in your hand. They might not be everyday purses, but they’re definitely ones to make a luxe statement.

The Wall Street Journal has recently reported that Prada’s sister brand, Miu Miu has departed from many U.S. department stores as a result of a disagreement of how the secondary brand should be displayed. The company wanted their own store-in-stores, while the department stores wanted to mix Miu Miu in with all the other high-end bags.

The Prada House launched the Miu Miu line in 1992. The cheaper line was created for the younger generation. Miuccia Prada’s nickname is Miu Miu.
