I wish I wasn’t so scared of white handbags. Ok, well, I am not scared of them per say, but I am terrified about how quickly they can become dirty. Even a little more terrifying than a white handbag – a white clutch. With a white clutch, as you know, you have to carry it in your hand. This has me concerned. I am not some filthy person, but I am a little clumsy. I can see myself forgetting that I just finished reading the newspaper (yes, I still read real newspapers) reach for the white clutch and voila – filth. However, if I can get past my fear, this particular Jimmy Choo clutch would have to be mine.

I absolutely fell in love with the Jimmy Choo Zulu Butterfly Leather Clutch. At first glance the clutch might appear a bit simplistic, but upon further review you can see that there is in fact quite a bit of detail that went into it. The white leather has a bit of pleating and gorgeous studded butterfly with snake-effect insert details. There is a zip-fastening top with a zip pull and satin lining. At 12″ x 7″ this clutch does borderline on oversized and it works. I could see myself grabbing this as I run out for lunch or even a night on the town. It is so whimsical! Now, if I can just let go of my fear.
Texture might be the most underrated way to make a handbag special and interesting. Regular leather can only be dyed so many colors and sewn into so many shapes – after a certain point, a plain leather bag, no matter how nice the leather, can feel boring and repetitive.
Jimmy Choo has been trying for the past season or two to find ways to add texture in just the right way, and the results have been (to be blunt) mixed. Some of it has been great, some of it has been pretty terrible, but I appreciate that they’re trying to find a way to make their offerings really unique. Which brings us to the Jimmy Choo Cristina Pleated Leather Bag – are you feeling it, or is this another unfortunate sacrifice in the battle for good design? We’ve got an up-close shot of the bag’s texture after the jump.
For what it’s worth, I think it’s kind of fab. I hated it on initial inspection, but the pleated, somewhat rigid ruffles of textured leather are growing on me. The mix of multicolor, brights and neutrals in a variety of embossed textures might feel like overkill to some people, but I tend to wear a lot of black, and this kind of handbag looks totally fab against a dark color.
I’m also fond of the design because the folks at Choo didn’t allow fashion to get in the way of function. The texture only adds to the look – the bag is not any harder to use because of the design elements, and that’s an area in which a lot of designers tend to get in their own way. Jimmy Choo hasn’t created a bag that will appeal to everyone, but the best fashion statements rarely will.
You guys, it is the most beautiful day in the history of forever right now. A week ago it was snowing in Georgia, and now it’s 70 degrees and perfect, without a cloud in the sky. Come lunch time, I am going to be violating many a fashion rule by wearing white and flip flops long before Easter while I sit on a blanket at the University of Georgia’s leafy campus and eat a packed lunch. I will have a picnic with myself and my laptop, so it will be like all of you are joining me, right?
Ok, so, the weirdness of working at home aside, this is the weather that makes me want to put on my best spring purchases thus far and find some grass. I generally hate the outdoors, but for a few precious weeks before Georgia’s heat gets oppressive and insufferable, I can’t help but enjoy the gleaming promise of a new season. The only thing that could make it better would be having the Jimmy Choo Cecile Woven Bag by my side.
Bringing this bag to a picnic is probably not the wisest decision unless you’re very careful to keep it on the blanket and far from the food, but I’ve never been that good of a decision-maker (or particularly careful), so I’d probably do it in an instant. And with the basket-mimicking white woven leather and preponderance of shiny gold hardware, this bag is screaming for its turn in the sun – direct lighting is where this fashion bag is going to look its best.
Don’t get me wrong, this bag would also be a champ under artificial light, but when a bag makes such a clear bid to be paired with the bright colors of spring and summer, I can’t help but hope that it gets at least a few moments outside with a fastidious owner that will make sure that the bag remains unsullied by the unpleasant realities of outdoor living.
I’m not sure if it’s Lady Gaga’s influence or what, but I’m sure that I’m not the only person that has noticed sequins everywhere for the past few months. High-end handbag designers have largely avoided the trend, but Jimmy Choo has been embracing some rather fly-by-night trends as of late, so the Jimmy Choo Sequined Snake Pattern Tote doesn’t really surprise me.
It’s difficult to see the sequins in this picture since they’re clear, but I assure you that they’re there and they appear to cover the entire bag. As much as I love sequins (and really, I adore them), I just can’t support their inclusion on an everyday tote for a variety of reasons.
First, this bag is busy enough as it is. The blue-silver metallic snake print leather has plenty going on, and it gives you more than enough to look at. Plus it’s already metallic, so there’s no need to have an extra layer of shine on top. The sequins are unnecessary and create visual clutter when the light shines on them.
And then there’s the functional problem of sequins. When they’re covering a clutch, they mostly stay in your hand and away from your clothes. But when they’re on a shoulder bag, the sequins will constantly be rubbing against your clothes, and I can think of a few sweaters in my closet that wouldn’t be particularly thrilled about that. There’s also the problem of sequins coming loose when you’re in constant contact with other materials, and that’s just a problem that I don’t want to deal with.

For the last few seasons fringe has been absolutely everywhere. Like many trends, it started on the streets. Hipsters and modern hippies everywhere insitgated a return of the classic Minnetonka moccasin, and it took off from there. Well, it has finally made it to Fifth Avenue.
But this Jimmy Choo Sky Shoulder Bag takes everything you usually think of when you see suede fringe (70’s rockers, Pocahontas, to name a few) and turns it upside down. Not that the bohemian element is totally missing, it isn’t. It’s just been classed up considerably. And to be honest, I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
To make black leather and fringe palatable Uptown, the fringe has been cut much shorter than you see on boho styles. The problem is that is comes off looking kind of cheap, which the replica bag certainly isn’t, at $2,295 retail.
The shape of the fashion bag is nice and simple, and the rolled leather handle is sleek and sturdy. I even like the hardware. I don’t particularly think that gold was the best choice, as it only enhances the sort of cheesy look of the luxurious bag, but in any case, it’s half obscured by the logo bracelet, anyhow.
I really want to like this upperclass take on edgy beatnik style, but I don’t. I just can’t get over the shoddy look of the material.

Women all over the world find Jimmy Choo’s shoes totally irresistible. I’m only somewhat partial to them myself, but I have to say that, for the most part, I have been totally disappointed by his accessories line. It lacks the sophisticated simplicity of his shoes, and falls a little short of what I expect from a high-end designer.
The Lola Medium Slouchy Tote, unfortunately, is no exception. There are things that I really like about it, like the sleek white leather and the elaborate perforated design. But the things I don’t like about the replica bag outweigh the things I do like. The complicated braided leather and multiple clasp handle, for one, looks overdesigned and unwieldy. And the giant gold studs, I think, take something away from the delicacy of the cutout design. Plus, their star shape has sort of a country western appeal that doesn’t fit with the rest of the luxurious bag.
I know that blatant branding doesn’t bother that many people, but here again, I am one of the few, and I really don’t like that JIMMY CHOO has been cut into the leather handbag. It seems a little tacky and obvious. Overall, there is just too much going on here for me to focus on the beautiful parts of the fashion bag, and that is a major bummer.

Following the announcement of Jimmy Choo and Elton John’s designer collaboration for AIDS initiative Project PEP, the fashionable pair has launched a photographic competition.
Your entry will need three things: you, your favorite shoe, and the number 72. The number is significant as Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) must be administered within 72 hours of exposure to the HIV virus.
The competition aims to raise awareness of the Project PEP initiative, which will raise funds for the Simelela Rape Center in Cape Town, South Africa. The center looks to administer rape victims with the vital PEP medication and provide medical, counseling, and legal support.
More than 100 lucky snappers will take home products from the Project PEP range, with the grand prize winner scoring seven pairs of shoes and two purses from Jimmy Choo handbag. Many of the winning images will also be displayed at Project PEP’s official launch at Selfridges London on October 29.

Jimmy Choo has gone vintage for fall with their new rubbery eel skin Carolina Clutch. The oversized body of the rectangular clutch is dressed in black eel skin with watersnake leather featured on the front that’s topped off with a golden band that pops open to reveal a large zipper-secured mouth and a tan & lilac interior. This newbie also comes with a removable chain link strap.
I own a few vintage eel skin bags and love them to death, but many of my purse enthusiast friends do not share my love for the texture. It’s a thin silky smooth texture (some say rubbery) with long lasting durability. Eel skin has been proven to be 1.5 times more durable than leather of the same thickness. So if you want your fashion bags to last years and years to come, and you like the feel of eel skin, and more importantly you love the vintage look then you can’t miss this new fall JC Carolina bag.
