Fashion designers have long taken their fantasy beyond using conventional fabrics. In collaboration with confectionary companies, fashion brands handbags are avidly experimenting with such unexpected clothing material as chocolate.
Just recently, Shanghai hosted a whopping fashion show Salon du Chocolat where models sported dresses, replica bags, masks and fans made from chocolate.

In the meantime, German confectionary company Lambertz arranged a quite extraordinary show, too. Models along with German actresses and pop stars wore quirky outfits made from chocolate and other sweets. There were a chocolate ball studded coat, cookie package military jacket, a dress with chocolate stars and what not!

Over on PurseBlog Savvy we continue to bring you handbags and accessories from contemporary designers that are almost always under $850. If you haven’t made PBs a daily read, you should! While we have separated categories, it is still nice to get a deal here on PurseBlog.

This week the Marc by Marc Jacobs Lace Miss Marc Circle Coin Purse has caught my attention for its cheeky design and affordable price. A couple months ago I would have told you, ‘hey, this is a great stocking stuffer!’. Now I am telling you, ‘hey, this is a great gift for any occasion’. Simply put, it is.

I adore this Marc by Marc Jacobs accessory! The print coated canvas features a lace Miss Marc graphic on the front. Miss Marc always has a way to provide us with a little sass, whether it is on a tee shirt, a bag, or an accessory. And this pouch is feminine, flirty and fun.

Louis Vuitton Lover Ashley Tisdale Asks for New Handbag This Christmas

High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale should be able to afford most trinkets that catch her eye, but the 24-year-old star is still working on her Christmas wish list. Her most wanted item this year? A new purse of course!

“I love handbags, so I’m hoping for a new handbag,” she told media at Bauer Publishing’s M magazine Hollywood Halloween party in New York City recently.
She added that her strict parents, who wouldn’t let her own a designer bag until she was 19, fueled her love of expensive labels like Louis Vuitton.

“I got my first  Replica Louis Vuitton at 19 from my parents. I usually get those kind of bags from my parents. It’s not like I can just go shopping and buy all the designer bags I want because I don’t think I’m at a place where I can do that.” She added that, “I think it’s more special when you get it as a gift.”
I’ll be scouring the fashion pages after Christmas to see whether Ms Tisdale is sporting a shiny new piece of arm candy!

Coach Sues Target for Copyright Infringement | Retail Chain Sells “Confusingly Similar” Purses

coach2Luxury handbag label Coach has filed a lawsuit against Target, alleging that the retail giant has infringed upon its intellectual copyright.

In a lawsuit lodged at the United States District Court in Manhattan last Thursday, Coach claims Target is selling handbags “confusingly similar” to its Ergo and Signature Patchwork collections.

“Target is not authorized by Coach bags to manufacture, distribute, advertise, offer for sale and/or sell merchandise bearing the Ergo designs or the Signature Patchwork designs,” the lawsuit said.
The lawsuit includes claims of trademark infringement and unfair competition.

Target is pleading ignorance on this one, with a spokeswoman claiming “We are currently looking into this situation and working with our vendor partner.

“It always has been – and continues to be – Target’s policy to respect the intellectual property rights of others.”
It’ll be interesting to see how this case goes. We’ve seen the luxury labels take down many small bag brands creating obvious counterfeits, but a firm with the might of Target may be another story.

Ad-Loewe
Gisele Bundchen is one of Loewe’s new faces, and comes out with a bang in her series of photos for the 2009 2010 Fall Winter collection. The ad features the model with Loewe’ latest bags, sprawled in a lounge chair. Some have labeled the poses ad awkward, but Gisele still pulls it off, looking sexy and still covetable, much like the Loewe bags she’s totes.

The only thing though, is that we are not sure if the cat is camera ready.
Shot by Inez and Vinoodh, this ad campaign shows off the replica bags, as well as the supermodel to dramatic effect. The cat looks like its been photo-shopped in this pic.

Marc JacobsIf you’re interested in the fashion handbags industry, you’re probably glued to the television when reality shows like Project Runway and The Rachel Zoe Project are on. Although the shows’ concepts are different, the peek into the behind-the-scenes world of fashion is priceless.

Though now on Lifetime, Project Runway began on Bravo TV, the place that The Rachel Zoe Project calls home. The network has made fashion reality a priority, and it’s hoping to continue the trend.

Evidently it’s got it’s eyes set on Marc Jacobs. After reading a past interview where the designer discussed wanting his own reality show, Bravo has been chomping at the bit to get the ball rolling.

Bravo executive Andy Cohen discussed the network’s interest:

I think he got calls from everywhere,” Cohen told us. “And we’ve talked to him about it so many times, and we’re grateful enough that he’s appeared on ‘The Rachel Zoe Project’ for two seasons,” he added. But then Cohen crumpled: “But we are desperate for Marc — to get him on Bravo.”

If this project takes flight, I’m guessing it will be a huge hit for Bravo, possibly even filling the hole that Project Runway left.

Emma Hill Joins Mulberry as Creative Director

mulberry website In July, editor of Pop magazine, Katie Grand, was named the replacement of Mulberry’s creative director, Stuart Vevers who is moving to Loewe in January. But Mulberry did not have an easy time assigning a new creative director, because just a few weeks ago Grand resigned only a few months before she was set to begin. While the reasoning for her resigning is still unknown, Mulberry had to re-start their search. Mulberry found another replacement naming Emma Hill as the creative director whose designs will debut with the spring 2009 collection. Emma Hill has previously worked at Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Chloe, and Gap.

Coach Gambling In China

Posted Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

America and Japan are the traditional markets of luxury goods, but emerging markets including China are more and more attractive.

According to Bain & Company’s report that the emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India and China are experiencing continuous growth although the overall luxury-goods market in 2009 will face a decline for the first time in six years.

A report from World Luxury Association points out that China’s share in the global luxury goods consumption is growing year by year, accounting for 18%, has become the third largest luxury consumer after America and Japan.

“The markets except China have shrinked in the past three to six months,” Victor told the reporter that the markets of America and Japan have shinked last season, but that of China maintains a growth of two figures.

In view of this, with the global cost reducing, Coach has acquired its agent in China with a high pay, which signifies its transition of agent to direct stores.

On April 1, Coach announced that its second-stage repurchase of Hong Kong Imaginex Group’s retail business in mainland China, which includes 17 retail stores. Now with the retail business of Hong Kong and Macao repurchased in September 2008, Coach has finished its total repurchase.

This move shows that Coach is to compete in China. Frankfort also says that the global economic slowdown is bound to further improve China’s status in luxury-goods industry, not only as a manufacture center, but more importantly, as a growing market.
